VIP Tour of Kerston Foods Warehouse
Telling the story of our warehouse to our external partners becomes a bit challenging without visual aids such as pictures or videos. However, we understand the importance of sharing this narrative to establish a strong connection with our valued partners. Let us guide you through a VIP virtual tour of our facilities using words alone, so you can experience the vibrant energy and activity that defines Kerston Foods.
Layout and Design
The warehouse spans a vast area, organised with military precision. Rows of towering shelving units line the floor, each stocked with a variety of food products and other associated products. The layout ensures that every square inch is maximised for storage. The entire facility is well-lit, creating a bright and welcoming atmosphere.
Automation
One of the most impressive features is the deployment of advanced automation. You’ll witness staff smoothly navigating the aisles with automated devices, efficiently scanning products from shelves to trollies. These devices have significantly improved the speed and accuracy of product retrieval and stacking.
Temperature Control
Kerston Foods takes its commitment to quality seriously. The warehouse is divided into temperature-controlled zones to cater to the diverse range of products. As you move through the facility, you’ll notice the careful maintenance of these climate zones, ensuring that both frozen, chilled and ambient-temperature goods are stored optimally.
Inventory Management
Real-time inventory management is a key function here. The entire system is connected to cutting-edge software that tracks each item’s location, and demand. This not only streamlines order fulfilment but also ensures item availability.
Biggest Changes
One of the most significant changes in recent years has been the move from paper processing to digital processing, reducing our carbon footprint significantly. Sustainability is now a core part of warehousing operations.
Future Expectations
As your exclusive tour of Kerston Foods’ cutting-edge warehouse facility draws to a close, you’ll leave with the distinct impression that this facility stands as a beacon of modernisation, efficiency, and an unwavering dedication to sustainability. The horizon is brimming with exciting possibilities for further innovations in food industry warehousing, and Kerston Foods proudly leads the way.
We extend a warm invitation to you to visit our facilities, engage with our teams, and delve deeper into our product range, systems, and operations. To embark on a true VIP experience, simply make an appointment at our offices, where you can witness the Kerston Foods journey firsthand.

Meet this Month's Team Member
As summer approaches, our perishables department becomes a focal point within our business. The demand for this team to uphold our standards and rigorously maintain our cold chain processes, especially during the summer season, is exceptionally high. Kerston Foods offers a range of high-risk products, and it’s imperative that our team implements additional measures during the summer to guarantee the delivery of top-quality products to our valued customers. Leading this team is Michael Wafawanaka, and here is what his team has to share about his leadership.
Michael Wafawanaka
Michael W. plays a crucial role in managing and maintaining the quality of perishable goods. His attention to detail is essential in spotting any signs of spoilage or deterioration. He has a high degree of organisational skill which includes efficient inventory management, rotation of goods, and tracking expiration dates. He owns his department and takes responsibility for ensuring his department functions efficiently.
His staff respects him, and he is a very respectful person. Easy to get along with and always willing to go the extra mile. Very reliable and open to learning and understanding new tasks.
Michael is funny; he has a great sense of humour.
I work well with Michael I feel he can be more involved in other operational requirements outside of his department. He’s a good leader and one who stands for what he believes in.
Gochujang Korean Pepper Paste
Gochujang is a thick and spicy-sweet crimson paste mainly made from red chilli pepper flakes, glutinous rice, fermented soybeans, and salt. It’s uses are diverse, as it was used to add spiciness not only to cooked dishes but also to other sauces and condiments.
It’s a bit spicy, a bit funky, a bit salty and all kinds of savoury. Gochujang also has a gentle sweetness which it gets from the fermentation process which sees the starches in the rice converted to sugars.
Gochujang is like miso paste and little goes a long way. Gochujang pepper paste is typically used to add depth to dishes in collaboration with other ingredients, it can be used in marinades for meat dishes, stirred into dipping sauces and used in stews and soups.

Why I do Business with Kerston Foods
I’ve been using Kerston Foods as my main dry goods supplier for many years. The service and assistance and communication and willingness to help from every employee is really just amazing. Nothing is ever too much to ask for. When I call, the service is amazing. When you need something that is not part of the stock holding, they make a plan. The communication is quick and efficient. Clint really goes out of his way to help in every way possible.
Even the delivery guys are just amazing. They pick up issues when they deliver. They know when stock is loaded at the warehouse what I usually order, and correct things there. When they get here, they always smile and they even know where things are packed in my dry store. I was even told by them when they would not be en route and that someone else would be stepping in.
The team in accounts is also really on it. Sending Ct notes and statements well on time.
I would highly recommend Kerston Foods. Much more than just a supplier of goods. This team is a well-oiled machine that makes dealing with them daily really a pleasure.
