A Message From Our Accounts Team

In business, as in life, change is the only true constant. From mitigating unprecedented business disruptors (such as COVID-19), to adapting to new operational standards, the hospitality industry (as many others) found themselves dealing with many changes. The Accounts department at Kerston Foods was no exception. COVID-19 however raised awareness of much needed development/ changes to systems, processes, etc. whilst maintaining the exceptional customer service and collection performance.

In 2023, the department set out to build stronger connections and relationships with our customers through weekly visits. This was welcomed and well received and has thus been adopted as a standard process in the department. We look forward to continue building new relationships in the years to come!

Introduction

The Accounts department composes of several functions including receivables, payables, budgeting, planning, analysis, etc. Accounts Receivables (AR) and Accounts Payables (AP) are key to managing cash flow and working capital. We manage collections, payments, receipts, credit applications, deductions, and credit risk.

What does an Accounts Department do?

AR are tasked with ensuring that payments due are received on time and processed promptly. AP on the other hand ensures accurate supplier, procurement and invoice management, compliance, and payments.

Additionally, we ensure maintenance/ upkeep of both the customer and supplier master data and ensuring compliance with storing documents.

Year Ahead (Goals):

  • Maximise payment recovery: Optimise the recovery of payments, this involves implementing strategies and technologies that streamline current processes.
  • Vigilant tracking of overdue payments and mitigating bad debt: Efficiently track and address overdue payments.
  • Streamlined invoicing for clarity and transparency: clear, accurate transparent practices facilitate smoother transactions.
  • Elevating the customer experience: Introducing multiple payment options, auditing, and improving Standard Operating Procedures.
